Citroen officially presented the 200 HP sport version of the DS3, the premium subcompact model of the French automaker.
Citroen has finally launched a production version of one of their models truly devoted to the six consecutive wins that Sebastien Loeb has succeeded in WRC. If, until now, the Loeb fans could only enjoy the C4 by Loeb version, that developed only 150 HP, now they will be happy with a smaller and more powerful model: DS3 Racing. The Racing version of the first representative of the new premium Citroen range will develop 200 HP and it is meant to step up for the battle with Clio RS and develop 25 horsepower more than the Mini Cooper S, the next competitor in the segment.
EXTERIOR
Created by Citroen Racing Division engineers, the model was deeply revised to face the challenges of a the sport small segment which is in full raise. Thus, DS3 Racing comes with plenty of outdoor changes which make the delight of those thirsty for sportiveness. Among the changes they included the carbon fiber front spoiler, bloated fenders and doors, special 18 inch orange wheels and the top aerodynamic finishing borrowed straight from the rally world. So a an carbon fiber air diffuser occurs, which is meant to maintain vehicle’s stability at high speeds and the chromed tips of the exhaust system. Over all, the contrast between the gray body paint and the orange accents that complete the bodywork: the roof, mirrors, wheels and aggressive grille’s edge stands out. The decals the personalize the sporty DS3 Racing version come as natural, as a sort of icing on a cake, that is more pleasant than ever.
INTERIOR
Racing DS3’s interior retains the same lines as the exterior, both colors, but also the fun game of the decals being found in the cockpit. The original design of the production DS3 is complemented by a dynamic approach represented by the gear shifter and the orange dashboard, but also by the sport pedals and especially by the plate that to certifies that the car belongs to a limited series.
ENGINE
The engine hidden under the hood of DS3 Racing is developed by PSA Peugeot-Citroen in collaboration with BMW and develops 200 HP, while torque reaches a maximum of 203 lb-ft. The modifications brought to the 1.6-liter engine also available in range with 156 HP have manely targeted the turbine, which has been adapted to allow a growth of 30% of the total power. Obviously, changes have also targeted and the transmission’s gear ratios, optimized to extract the maximum from the new engine.
The Citroen Racing engineers have also altered DS3’s chassis, which is approached in a sporty manner. Thus, the car height was lowered by 0.6 inches, while the suspension is 100% new and made especially to accommodate to the specific of the car. The steering promises to be precise and adapted to the DS3 Racing’s sporty temperament.
The new model will be presented in a world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show, on March 2, and it will only be produced in a series limited to only 1,000 copies.
